Why use clay paint rather than normal natural emulsion like the Auro 555?

It’s the softness of the finish that is truly amazing with these natural clay paints, try a tester and see for yourself. Unlike many ‘normal’  grainy clay paints, it’s fine and smooth and can be applied with brush or airless spraying.

Breathability  – Very breathable natural paint (SD value < 0.015 m), and especially great in areas of high humidity like bedrooms as this clever clay paint will store humidity when needed and release it again later.  The clay paint is more breathable than the Auro 555, with SD of 0.015 rather than the (already amazing 0.01 of the Auro 555)

Provided it is applied to an already-breathable surface it minimises condensation.

What does it go on? For coloured applications and decorative design on mineral and organic bases, e.g. wallpaper, plaster, clay, concrete, gypsum plaster boards etc – IE all normal walls.

For overpainting lime paints and plasters: Needs priming due to differences in alkalinity of lime paints, so one coat of Auro 321 diluted with 10% water, or one coat of the Auro 505 grip coat is required.

Does it need a primer? To achieve a uniformly-coloured clay paint coating, the normal house paint to be painted over should also have a uniform colour.  On uniformly-coloured house paint apply 1 coat of 535 clay paint diluted with up to 10% of water, or there is again the option to prime with 505 Grip coat, fine.  Subsequently, apply one or two coats of undiluted clay paint.

How well does it cover? 2 coats advised, and generally no primer needed for most normal surfaces.  10 litres will cover around 90 square metres of wall per coat.

What is it made from? Made with only natural ingredients, so no hidden nasties like ‘big brand’ paint which affect health and air quality, which can eventually lead to health difficulties and allergies flaring. Auro created their natural binder ‘Replebin’, 100% from natural ingredients to create a modern strong and hard wearing binder.

Ingredients: Liquid ammonia, Cellulose, Clay, Mineral pigments, Mineral Fillers, Thiazole, Surfactants made of rapeseed and castor oils, Water, Replebin

Contains trace MI (EU regulation for all coloured paint). White 331 Clay Paint (only) is MI free.

Tips for application: For the best result, first paint the masked edges and corners, and then immediately afterwards paint the rest of the area with a roller. Apply the paint liberally and always work to a wet edge.

  • VOC Level: < 1 g/l.
  • Breathability: SD value < 0.015 m
  • Wipeability: Class 3

Brushing, rolling: A short-pile wall paint roller is recommended for a uniform coating.
