Graphenstone’s L42 Ambient primer has been designed as a bridge between difficult to paint surfaces and their existing range of excellent paints – so they have compromised with this primer to fix specific use cases – and therefore the formulation does contain a hybrid acrylic binder to allow their main ‘clean’ products to stick to complicated surfaces, especially with lime paints over existing non lime surfaces. This primer still has good eco creds, it’s just not as clean as the other products we stock. Generally this primer is not required for normal painting and surfaces. L42 Ambient Primer is not as natural as the other products we stock. (It contains some acrylic & BIT)
We only stock this to complete the range of Graphenstone paints, and for customers that want to paint lime based Graphenstone paints over difficult surfaces. Most of the time you don’t need this primer if you want avoid all non natural paints.
If you are looking for a ‘true natural’ primer then the Auro range does offer an alternative. We would recommend the Auro Eggshell 517 as the wood and metal paint, and the Auro 501 Natural wood primer to match. If you are painting absorbent walls with Auro paint then we would recommend the Auro 301 plaster primers.

Chemical preservatives & additives. Graphenstone paints avoid adding MIT or BIT chemical preservatives in our formulations. Instead, Graphenstone opt for a natural lime additive to serve as a preservative. However, it’s important to note that some of the raw materials may contain trace amounts of chemical preservatives. Regarding BIT, recent changes to EU legislation now mandate that all levels of BIT preservatives, no matter how minuscule, must be disclosed. A small number of raw materials in some of the Graphenstone paints can contain trace amounts – less than 0.05% – of BIT. This information is now required to be included on both packaging and data sheets. The product Four2Four contains < 0.02% TMDD (2,4,7,9-tetrametildec-5-ino4,7-diol), an additional adhesive agent enabling the primer to adhere well to difficult surfaces.
