Is natural paint more expensive?
Yes, natural paint is often more expensive than your common big brand paint you would find in your high street DIY shop. There is no doubt that going to all the effort of sourcing sustainable ingredients, and maintaining an ethical and sustainable supply chain means you can’t cut corners and choose from a plethora of mass man made synthetic chemicals shipped half the way around the world. It’s not cheap making premium natural paint, the economies of scale just don’t drive the prices down in the same way that mass manufacturing of plastic paints has.
Is expensive paint worth the extra money?
Is it worth paying for premium paint and is it worth the extra money? If you are comparing more expensive natural paints against cheaper chemical plastic paints, then yes, expensive natural paints are worth the extra money. Do I think that one expensive plastic paint from a fancy interior designer is any better than the high street plastic cheaper paint equivalent? Probably not. Is it worth buying cheap paint? There is no doubt that super cheap economy paints do exist, but you have to think about how and why they have become that cheap in the first place. Personally I don’t think searching for the absolute cheapest house paint is the best strategy for interior decoration.
Is there a difference between cheap and expensive paint?
Most of the time there will be a difference between the very cheapest and the higher end paints, usually a little more durability etc, but if you are comparing between cheap chemical paints and the more expensive natural paints, yes, the expensive natural paints are way better for you and for the environment.
However, it depends on what you’re trying to do. You could buy good traditional lime wash style paint very ‘cheap’, in fact cheaper than a big brand plastic paint, but that’s only good if that is actually the paint you want to use. Generally your cheaper plastic paints won’t be quite as good as the expensive ones – but as you’ll know with buying anything in life, expensive doesn’t always correlate with ‘good’!
What is the most expensive type of paint?
There are many different types of expensive paints, the most expensive paints will be your celebrity endorsed brand paints, rather than the household names of paint that you may be familiar with. Often with chemical and plastic paints, the cost doesn’t actually make them any better! Just paying for the name a lot of the time!
Is eco paint worth it?
I’m biased, of course I’m going to say it’s worth it, otherwise I’d be a bit of a fool to have spent over a decade in the industry trying to educate the average consumer to think about moving away from chemical filled plastic paint that is not doing themselves or the environment any good at all. Yes it’s worth it, on literally every level.
How long does natural paint last?
Natural paint these days can last, or even outlast chemical plastic paints, and one of the great benefits is that when it does gradually break down it doesn’t pollute our environment with plastic microbeads. Paints contribute more microbeads into the world’s oceans than anything else combined, so by switching to natural paints such as the Auro or Graphenstone range you can really make a difference, both now and in the future. Do the right thing!
What is the difference between natural paint and synthetic paint?
The main difference between natural and synthetic paint are the ingredients used in manufacture, IE sustainably sourced natural and non toxic minerals and plant based binders vs the chemical solvent heavy plastic filled big brand paints most people take as standard. What are the disadvantages of synthetic paint? Standard synthetic paints ‘off gas’ horrible toxins into our indoor environment for many months after painting, even years, leading to increased health issues and triggers. Why is natural paint good? Natural paints have low, or even near zero VOCs in some of the ranges, and often none of the horrible chemicals either.
Does fresh paint add value to a house?
There is no doubt that having clean and well painted walls in your home can add value to your home. Of course a home that has perfectly painted walls will have a higher valuation than the exact same house with scrubby and damaged internal paintwork. This is especially true for exterior wall paints. If your house looks amazing from the outside, not only can it increase the value of your own home, but can help raise the general house price level of your entire street if everyone starts to follow suit.
Hi! I’m Chris, the founder of The Organic & Natural Paint Co, and I’m focused on the education and promotion of natural non toxic alternatives to chemical laden everyday products that we just take for granted. We have a choice, and I want to raise awareness of alternative products that don’t actually harm us!
This company is my way of pushing the awareness of better indoor air quality, something that I am personally passionate about due to my own children’s breathing medical conditions. I just couldn’t paint with big brand standard petrochemical paint any longer and wanted another solution.
